30 Oval Road is a prominent canal side building in the heart of Camden Town to be developed – part refurbishment, part new build – comprising high quality residential apartments and onsite affordable housing together with B1 offices and design studios.
This substantial Victorian building was originally constructed as railway offices and latterly became the home of Jim Henson's Muppet organisation. The development will enhance and restore the appearance of this historic facade fronting the Regents Canal.
Now completed the scheme provides 52 apartments and 24 onsite affordable housing apartments and approximately 27,000 sq ft (2,508 sq m) of B1 offices and design studios.
Shaw Corporation advised and assisted in the design, layout and forward sale of the onsite affordable housing to Community Housing Group (now One Housing Group) as well as advising on the planning strategy and retention and repair of the access to the Listed Horse Tunnels and historic Horse Steps which link the property to industrial archaeology which is an important feature of this part of Camden Town.
Shaw Corporation assisted with the Section 106 negotiations and separately on negotiations with British Waterways for Balcony Licences and development rights.
Shaw Corporation has been prominently involved in many of the recent developments and urban regeneration projects in Camden Town, for example Piers Gough's iconic Glass Building in Jamestown Road, the regeneration of the world renowned Stables Market and Camden Plaza (where Parkway meets Camden High Street), the Open University headquarters in Hawley Crescent and the redevelopment of 64-70 Camden High Street and Kings Terrace to promote the regeneration of the southern end of Camden High Street. |
